PROFILE OF THE LAGOS STATE TAXI DRIVERS AND CAB OPERATORS ASSOCIATION

PREAMBLE

Lagos State Taxi Drivers & Cab Operator Association Was formed in the year 1984 and was duly registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) on the 9th September under the leadership of Pastor Thomas Olatunji Oladipupo at 55A Western Avenue, Oju Elegba, Surulere, Lagos.
On the 13th April 1989 the Baton of the leadership was changed to Dr. Samuel Oluwadurotimi Ojo in a free and fair election.
In the year 1999 Otunba Olatunji Odujobi was elected as President and he resigned his appointment in year2002 to allow him performs his Chieftaincy title in his home town. This brought Dr. Lateef Oseni to power.
In the year 2004 Dr. Lateef Oseni retained his presidency seat in the most free and fair election. And also on the 14th of April 2008 another election was held that retained Dr. Lateef Oseni as the President up to date. Throughout the Lagos State we are Controlling (16) sixteen local government with about (300) three hundred taxi park.
The Association have been dealing with various Banks in auto lease project e.g. New Nigeria Bank, I.M.B, Intercontinental Bank and ECO Bank to Mention but few.
The Association received million of naira from this Bank as loans to purchase Vehicle for distribution to our members use as Taxi which we paid back as at when due.
The Association also has an existing Cooperative Society, in which they help the member on soft loans to buy tyres, batteries and so on; the Cooperative Society has been set up in all sixteen branches that the Association is Controlling and was duly registered by Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Co-operative.
Currently the Executives of the above Association is made up of sixteen officer with the President as the head of the Association and the Executive has a mandate of four years in office but can be re-elected back to office after the expiration of their tenure.
While the total membership of the Association is currently at twelve thousand two hundred and seventy-four (12274) as at 29th August 2008.
